Methodology

Total Cost = Adult 1-Day Ticket + Parking + Meal + Accommodation

Amusement park selection: We wanted to cover top parks from all across the country. To do so, we researched top lists from state to state and combined this with our user data. We chose parks we know our users are visiting based on their accommodation searches.

Ticket: Online price for an adult 1-day, any day entry ticket in the peak season, as listed on park website. Processing fees and taxes not included. In the pay per ride parks, we took the “ride all day” ticket price.

Parking: Online price for 1 day of parking, as listed on park website.

Meal: Price for a cheeseburger, fries, and regular fountain drink. We used the meal deal price when available and if it consists of a cheeseburger, fries, and a fountain drink. The data was provided by the park websites, park customer service, and online menus.

Accommodation: Average nightly price per person to stay in a 4-person accommodation found on HomeToGo on Friday or Saturday between the dates of April 1, 2018 and October 27, 2018.

In addition to the Amusement Park Price Ranking, we calculated the price per ride at each park. To calculate this, we divided the adult 1-day ticket cost by the number of rides at the park. We excluded upcharge attractions.
