Tybee Island has three beaches facing the ocean and two river beaches. The South Beach is most popular with its soft sand, family-friendly atmosphere with lifeguards and many restaurants, bars, and hotels.
The Mid Beach is quieter, and is the perfect place to unwind, as the almost-empty beach gives you a sense of privacy.
Vacation rentals at the North Beach offer access to the Tybee Island Lighthouse, which provides awe-inspiring views of the beach and ocean. It may be a bit daunting if you have a fear of heights and perhaps is impractical for kids, but it is great for lighthouse enthusiasts. There is also a museum across from the lighthouse. North Beach is the closest beach to Savannah if you want to get into town.
Savannah River Beach and the Back River Beach are both excellent places to enjoy beautiful sunsets, spot dolphins, and do a little fishing. The waves are calm, making it perfect for younger kids.
If you are looking to do some exploring, you can rent kayaks or paddle boards and have an adventure in the marshes with or without a guide. You can also go deep sea fishing on a private charter or opt for dolphin tours.
You can spend a leisurely evening on a sunset cruise or take a leisurely stroll along the beach. If you are with your kids, don’t miss the Tybee Beach Ecology Trip to learn more about the local flora and fauna. Kids will love this innovative and fun trip.
